Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you know of any mission agencies looking for people who are willing
to serve?
A: We get this question many times per month. What if God is calling you
into missions? The best person you can talk with is a pastor in your area
who can get to know you well enough to be not only a person who can help
you pick a mission agency, but also someone who can stand behind you,
supporting you as you prepare to go to the mission field. If God is calling
you into missions, He will provide a way for you to go. Romans 8:28 says
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him,
who have been called according to His purpose." (NIV)
What else can you do? Many churches all over the world are sending
missionaries to other parts of the world. Often times, they will have
missionaries speak in their churches to help share their vision for what
God is doing in their own service area. You may consider looking around to
find what other missionaries are doing.
Q: Is there training I can get to prepare me specifially for missions?
A: Yes. We suggest that everyone who plans to serve or even "lay people"
that they take bible courses from an accredited school such as Moody Bible
Institute and a vast selection of others. Again, this would be something
that you would want to talk to a pastor about. Ask them what school they
went to and why they liked it. Many denominations sponsor schools of their
own and offer denominational members discounts on classes. We suggest that
anyone wishing to serve in the mission field have at least one full year
of Bible college of some sort to help ground them in God's word.
Q: I want to go now! Is there anything I can do right away?
or... I'm not sure if I want to make this a career. What can I do?
A: Again, check with your local pastor. Many mission agencies have short
term projects which can help people who are thinking about being a career
missionary. If nothing else, serving abroad as a missionary will be a life
changing experience for those who go.
